Equipment Airflow Optimization

- Virtual prototyping

Maintaining proper negative pressurization and airflow velocities is key in the design of toxic gas storage enclosures. Airflow modeling was used on this Fluorine gas enclosure to ensure proper velocities at the operator valve interface.

Transient Thermal Flow

The blast chamber – employed by the military for chemical weapons disposal – is heated with hot gas to decontaminate the chamber interior. Temperature differential between the inside and outside was limited to 50 degF to minimize thermal stress; too much expansion affects structural integrity of the chamber. Transient (time-dependent) CFD modeling determined an optimum heating schedule to decontaminate the chamber as quickly and safely as possible.
