Laboratory/Pharmaceutical (GMP) Airflow Study
Biotechnology Facility
- Conditioning optimization

Both thermal and airflow effects were determined for this biotechnology clean col room. Media storage bins were being expanded to increase production, and airflow modeling was used to determine how temperature and airflow patterns would be affected by the changes. The upper image shows the temperature out of specification above the bins and very little air movement. The problem was eliminated by introducing HEPA filter diffusion screens that direct air horizontally across the top of the media bins.
Pharmaceutical Manufacturing
- Air change efficiency

Airflow modeling was implemented on this project to increase the overall efficiency of the air distribution system. All of the facility’s rooms, including both ISO Class 8 cleanrooms and laboratory spaces were modeled. The Local Mean Age of the air was determined and compared against the Limiting Air Residence Time (LART) as performance metric. Areas in red indicate age of air greater than the LART, and thus poor air distribution.
